Opera Scholars Australia
Throughout 2018 and 2019 I had the pleasure of working with a wonderful organisation, Opera Scholars Australia. Following the completion of an opera directing workshop series led by Suzanne Chaundy, I was invited to work with the emerging singers to stage, choreograph and direct a number of their public performances. I thoroughly enjoyed my time working with some immensely talented and intelligent young singers.
As choreographer/movement director, I was able to help them develop their artistry and confidence by working with them to find choreography and movement choices that served both their storytelling and vocal requirements. As director, I supported their storytelling with simple acting through song techniques and helped them find a strong and specific connection to what they were singing.
I adore music and would describe myself as a person who appreciates music and musicality. Dance was my first artform so naturally, having an embodied relationship to music has been a part of my life from a young age. Working with OSA I was able to acquaint myself with so much stunning music for voice and quickly learnt about the unique requirements and conventions when working on the visual aspects of opera. It is a form that shares a lot in common with music theatre, however it also has its own unique, special qualities.
I worked on the following events:
Opera in the Alps
Arias Concert
Moments in Opera Concert
